Thomas Tale of the Brave DVD Review & competition!

Thomas&Friends_TOTB_art

Thomas the tank engine is a beautiful blue steam engine which recalls Britain’s mastery of the rails and the age of steam. My whole family has grown up with him through his books, toys and TV shows. Now my own children enjoy watching his antics (now CGI based rather than animated) and own a huge collection of Thomas trains. Despite this we have never visited Thomas Land at Drayton Manor before, so when we were asked along to a special screening of Thomas’s brand new movie we just couldn’t say no! So today I am bringing you our Thomas Tale of the Brave DVD review and over the next few days I’ll pop up a post about all the fun we had at Thomas Land.

The films begins with a terrible storm which causes a landslide at the Sodor China Clay Pits. Thomas notices some strange footprints, but who could they belong too!? The engines of Sodor are divided in opinion on whether there is a real live monster stalking the rails of Sodor but one thing’s for sure it’s going to take one brave engine to solve this mystery!TOTB movie still 3

The movie also introduces some brand new trains to the Thomas world including Gator, Marion, Timothy and Reg. Without revealing too much of the story and giving away the mystery here is what my kids thought of the film.TOTB movie still 2

Engine N – I loved it, I like James best, he’s funny and naughty.

Conductor G – It was really exciting, I particularly like Thomas, he’s always been my favourite!

Driver I – I thought the film was brilliant and my favourite part was when Thomas meets Marion the digging train, she talks a lot and made me laugh.IMG_9964

From a parents point of view all three kids were transfixed for the full hour and entered into a state of blissful silence, you can’t really ask for more.

There have also been some new toys released to coincide with the movie including Marion, Timothy, Gator and Scrap Heap Monster trains and a new Take-N-Play Roaring Dino Run set including Thomas.IMG_9956

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Review and Competition!

Today I’m sharing our review of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, along with a fabulous opportunity to win one of two copies of the DVD for your own family to enjoy!CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2 CDRB1397UV_3D UV STICKER

Inventor Flint Lockwood thought he saved the world when he destroyed his most infamous invention — a machine that turned water into food, causing cheeseburger rain and spaghetti tornadoes. However, he soon learns that his invention survived and is now creating food-animals, or “foodimals!”  Now, Flint and his friends must embark on a dangerously delicious mission to battle hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses, cheespiders and other foodimals to save the world – again! Cloudy 6

As a family we all loved the original Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and I was apprehensive that a sequel might not live up to it’s predecessor, however this film is easily as amusing if not more so! It’s definitely a film that adults will chuckle along too as well as the kids. Cloudy 7

The foodimals are ridiculously cute and my kids cannot stop quoting the Strawberry who says ‘En-Woo!’ repeatedly. I really can’t recommend it enough especially without giving away the plot, but if you don’t pick up a copy soon you really are missing out!

Justin & the Knights of Valour Review and DVD competition!

Today I’m sharing our review of Justin & the Knights of Valour, along with a fabulous opportunity to win one of three copies of the DVD for your own family to enjoy!

Justin-DVD_2D

Young Justin lives in a kingdom without knights! He dreams of following in his Grandfather’s footsteps and becoming one of the famed Knights of Valour but his father wants him to settle down to a life without adventure. Inspired by his Grandmother Justin decides to follow his heart and embarks upon a daring quest to become a knight by himself.

Sounds like fine family fun, but did the film live up to the write up? I let my three young adventurers decide:

Sir G – I think it was the best film I’ve seen so far!

Lady I – It was brilliant and most of all I liked the girl who helps Justin.

Sir N – I really liked the whole film, it was really funny!

GLEM_2000

So the kids loved it but what about us adults? In recent years and with the likes of Shrek, Despicable Me and the Pixar films, adults have been treated to family movies which also cater to our sense of humour and don’t have us nodding off in the corner. I wasn’t completely convinced I would enjoy Justin & the Knights of Valour but was pleasantly surprised. It doesn’t contain belly rumbling laughs which only parents understand, it’s much lighter and more delicately written than that. Some of the lip syncing seemed a little off in places (may have been my copy though I suppose) and I don’t think it’s a movie parents will watch entirely on their own, but for an afternoon with the kids or even as a simple way to occupy them it’s light hearted and sweet fun.
