Mumpreneur 2010

I’ve been a bit quiet this week. This has been largely due to preparing for Anne and my trip to Mumpreneur 2010. As you may or may not know our webstore selling handmade silver jewellery and accessories was nominated for Best Online Business. Unfortunately it didn’t win, but there was no reason to be downhearted.

This beautiful notebook and lolly was given to every Mum (or the odd Dad) that attended. We also received a huge pink goodie bag with lots of lovely samples.

As for the actual conference, there were several seminars throughout the day. These were quite interesting and I think would be invaluable to a new business or one about to launch.

There was also two very interesting speakers, I felt very much in awe of all the successful women around me. Some are very wealthy thanks to their ingenuity and business sense.

Lunch was provided, but here I have to admit a bit of disappointment on my part. There was a serious lack of pudding. If you read my blog and recipes regularly I’m sure you’ll understand that I do indeed like my desserts but there was none to be had 🙁

I felt incredibly tired when I got home and was very happy to see my children, apparently they all behaved beautifully for Daddy so that was a bonus. We genuinely didn’t think we would win the award so there was no real disappointment on that part, although of course it would have been lovely. Anyway big things are on the horizon for Angel Eden and I hope the next few months leading up to Christmas will see us finalise some new products and designs, so keep your eyes peeled here and on the website.

Time to replace the gloom with a big lift!

Anne and I are not immune to feeling down from time to time. I’m sure all small business owners experience this. It’s the curse of a creative mind, you dream your days away feeling elated at every new idea, then come crashing down as the inevitable plateau comes.

Suffice to say I have been feeling a little this way of late, we’ve also been making some hard decisions about the jewellery, such as who will stay and who will go. For example my favourite pendant looks set for the chop, I adore this pendant and wear it very regularly, but despite my admiration it hasn’t been popular with customers. Obviously I have unique taste 🙂 I would dearly love to know what is ‘wrong’ with it, so if you have any feedback please feel free to share it here.

But just as I was feeling very ‘woe is me’ I had a lovely email from Anne telling me that she has been nominated and made the final 6 in the Mumpreneur awards for Best Online Business. How fabulous is that! Of course I think she is beyond worthy of the award (but I may be ever so slightly bias). But Anne is the one who has really built the business, dragging it from nothing into something to really be proud of, it has taken far more time and energy than you might expect and I think she’s done a wonderful job. I feel very proud that she’s made the final 6 and I will hopefully be attending the awards with her. If you too are going be sure to keep an eye out for us.

So it goes to prove that yet again the law of a creative life carries on, I have moved from one low to another wonderful high. Lets hope there’s more of them to come 🙂

Competition Time & Celebrations!!

It’s been an exciting and busy time here at Angel Eden recently. First of all we won the Dorset Cereal Blog Award and I can’t thank you enough for voting for us. Secondly the blog now has over 100 followers 🙂 I love it when you leave me comments and send me emails with your thoughts, it’s great to know you actually enjoy the nonsense I pipe out.

Our other big news is the slow introduction of our new textile accessories line on the webstore. Some of these are completed some are still in the testing process, but it’s a very exciting time and we can’t wait to add this string fully to our bow. Hopefully the first items will be online tomorrow!
So it seemed that a competition was the only appropriate way to really celebrate and say thanks. This will be our biggest ever giveaway and I’m very excited to announce it.

There will be a grand prize winner and one runner up. The grand winner will receive this prize worth more than £45!! It includes our popular solid silver cupcake pendant, this has been designed and handcrafted by us. The winner can also choose the length of chain they wish the pendant to hang on.

You will also receive one of our brand new (fanfare please) ‘Treasure Pockets’. The pockets are hand embroidered using recycled fabrics, vintage buttons and lined with vintage French Linen. You can keep whatever you like in these. The cupcake pendant fits in beautifully in it’s box. I keep my mobile phone in mine to stop my keys from scratching it. Customers at the open weekend were buying them to hold gifts, to use as purses and so on. So whatever you really treasure, this is the home it deserves. As each is individual you will never see exactly the same pocket twice.

Your prize will come to you wrapped in the recognisable Angel Eden packaging. We are happy to post internationally so everyone is free to enter.

The runner up will receive a £10 voucher to spend in the Angel Eden webstore.

How to Enter

Entering couldn’t be simpler. Become a follower of this blog by clicking one of the links in the right column (if you are already just mention this) and leave a comment here.

For yet another entry you can visit our brand new facebook page (link to the left) and ‘like’ us, just comment there and you can rack up three chances to win!

Prize Allocation

All entries will be placed into a hat (more if you have two or three entries) and a name pulled out. The winner will be contacted by email (make sure you leave this in your comments).

The competition ends midnight on Sat 31st July. Good Luck!
